It seems that some people are even getting optimistic on Anand’s behalf! 37.57% average estimate. Well, crowds are assumed to hold a collected intelligence, but still. That much?!

I tried using the ‘wisdom of crowds’ to pick the winner of the superbowl last year and the crowd was horribly wrong. However when using a group of experts, they were correct. I would be interested to know if you ran this poll just on grandmasters what the % would be.
Basically you were asking: If there are 10 matches betwen Anand and Carlsen with 8 games each, how many of them would Anand win. With only 100 Elo points difference I find the answer 3-4 much more convincing than the answer 0-2. You have to be very dominant to score 8-2 out of 10 matches!
28.Ng3, and chess fans rejoice! Anand is out of prep while Carlsen is still in his. Magnus enjoys 40 minutes more on the clock and some pressure on the board.
paddyirish :My bet is that Carlsen would draw this position with black and win it with white…
For the sake of the match, I hope it’s a draw.
I can’t see any analysis, but did Anand need to lose/sacrifice the piece?
GM Sebastien Maze, on his Twitter account, said sacrificing the bishop was the only way to stay alive.
Interesting on Chessbase they say G9’s quick draw is a tightening of the noose and in Carlsen’s favour.
While it’s tight, each game now means more and more and this will benefit Anand, who has been there before. Carlsen has previous (Candidates 2013) when it comes to the closing straight. Putting Anand under the cosh in G9 from the relative safety of a white game would at least have tired Anand more (unless Carslen himself is under the weather.)
2 whites out of 3 after today’s “rest”, I think Anand’s chances are increasing. He just needs +1 out of the last 3 games to give Carlsen’s nerves a real test.
@paddyirish
Carlsen does not look stressed at all. Anand got all his good fortunes from the opening. If Carlsen gets out of the opening ok in game 10 and 12, the match is over.
@Jacob Aagaard
That’s the reason why I have doubts about Anands “safety first” strategy in this match. Rather be a narrow loser than risking a heavy defeat but creating also chances to win? No pressure on Carlsen when Anand is black but all the pressure on Anand himself when he’s white?

Carlsen will win today s game. I’m pretty sure Anand dislike his position. Moreover, Carlsen is better on time.

I hope Carlsen has something special prepared in this Berlin endgame…giving up an easy draw with the second white would be an error IMO.

No 2-hour draw today.
Anand has decided to defend a piece down endgame. Only two results possible.
At move 40, I am guessing Anand can scrape a draw. Andrew is guessing it’s a win.
My guess is that White wins.
Colin is a “don’t know”.
@John Shaw
Loser of this bet has to write the second edition of the King’s Gambit? 😀
@Seth
I would sooner bet my life savings than risk that fate. (Just for the record, this is not a legally-binding bet).

Carlsen donates the b3-pawn just to keep the game alive a little.
Gotta love it.
Drawn, 122 moves and 6.5 hours. Big game tomorrow.
9…Re8, Carlsen gets his move on the board first. Anand already in the tank. 10 minutes and counting.
21.Qxc5, Black enjoys 50 minutes more on the clock and a nearly dead even position.
It will be a gloomy day in the Anand camp tonight. When the draw is agreed in a few more moves, Carlsen will even have 1 hour more on the clock.
1/2 – 1/2 officially. 2.5 hours.
Interesting that Magnus admitted to not feeling in the best of shape at the start of the game. Maybe he was sick?
When asked if he could elaborate on this further, he simply replied “No.”

ok predictions for the upcoming game – I’m going for the critical mainline of the sokolsky, with 1 d4 as a back up.
GRUNFELD! Did not see that coming. Good start for chess fans!
It’s not a must-win situation for Anand yet, but quite close to that.
And now Carlsen increases the pressure on Anand by choosing an active defence.
19.Ng5, 31 minute think by Magnus here.
To my eyes, White’s position looks pretty good after 21…Re7 but if official clocks are accurate, Vishy is under 30 minutes left.
Best ending to a chess press conference ever:
Reporter: And what about you, Magnus? Have you ever tried the yoga “Bird of Paradise?”
Carlsen: Uhhhhh no.
Reporter: Do you think you will try it?
Carlsen: Not with the media around.
Karlovich: Thanks all for attending this press conference.
Snore – another Berlin, seems this afternoon’s viewing will be the grand prix instead
Kramnik has a lot to answer for the popularising this opening
At least this is a more “dynamic” version of the Berlin. It’s incredibly tense all across the board after 25…Kc6.
Grand prix finished, seems the berlin has indeed been a bit more dynamic this time.
No idea what move it is, but is looks liked Black could even be a bit better?!?
