Boris Avrukh was recently interviewed by Chess Life writer John Hartmann. A webpage about the interview is here, while the direct Youtube link is here.
Topic discussed include Dynamic Systems – Grandmaster Repertoire 2B, and Boris’s other books, which engine Boris uses, and his plans for the future.
Thanks to John Hartmann for letting me know about this interview.
Sort of surprised Avrukh says he uses Stockfish 8, and didn’t seem too aware of Leela?
I tried a whole day to install Leela onto ChessBase 15 with Windows 10 interface, and it was major arse pain. I failed and simply just use Komodo 10 and Stockfish 10.
I got there eventually, by looking at the LcO page, and then a video on youtube.
Interesting interview.
I’m surprised he was using Stockfish 8 considering that 10 is free and way stronger. Actually, the development version of Stockfish 11 is quite a bit stronger than even 10 and they’re all free.
That totally surprised me as well, I would have thought LcO would have to be the the first choice, with Stockfish 10 a close second.
Timoschenko writes in the foreword of his recent book on the Sveshnikov Sicilian that he used a ‘supercomputer’. Later on he says that this means a Quad core PC with Houdini 2…
Maybe a benefit of not using the latest / strongest engines is that this gives the reader a sense of accomplishment if they can improve on the book lines :-).
