We have four World Championship/Carlsen poll results to catch up on.
You were exactly right that 1.e4 e5 would be the most frequently played opening. It wasn’t even close, with 9 of the 12 classical games starting 1.e4 e5 (and 3 of the 4 tie-break games).
But the poll-clickers should have had more faith in Magnus after his Round 8 loss. He did rebound, though to be fair it was a close-run thing in Game 9.
The vote was (quite rightly) strongly in Carlsen’s favour when predicting the tie-break result. In the end it was 3–1, with one of Karjakin’s draws a miraculous save from a lost position (or a miss by Magnus, if you prefer).
For the last poll, we will have to wait to see if you are correct, but an overwhelming majority believe Carlsen will be the World Number 1 for all of 2017. On live ratings, his lead over Caruana is just 17 points.
